Going Banana's

Technology breakdown

We're back and we had a wonderful time on treasure Island.

While we where away our camera broke
My mobile phone broke
and now my computer is also broken

Fiji

Spontaneous craziness is something that I do now and then but this time it involves going to an Island to take time out with my loves.

I have thought about writing all that I have had to endure to get my

We have been busy trying to get everything together and all of us are very excited to go. I better get used to saying Bula!.

An embarrassing moment

I went to Centrelink today to apply for allowances to help Lachlan with his speech therapy. The first thing she asked me was what my centrelink number is and I did not know that. I don’t really think many people know that number on top of their head, do they?. I have it recorded in my wallet just in case now.

Then later on she asked me what’s the date of birth of the youngest child. My mind went blank and honestly I could not even tell her that!. I could instantly feel my face heating up and I could imagine just how I must have looked.

My own childs date of birth!. I looked at her blank and at that very moment I could remember all of the other 3 children’s date of birth in order, so then I said “I think it is the 14/3, yeah I think its the 14th but I am not really sure”.

So I rang Marty and he said that it was the 28th. In my head I must have heard the 27th. So I said “I think it’s the 27th but I’ll just get Marty to check the blue book to be sure”. Before we got to the blue book she says it’s the 28th and hands me a sheet of paper with all my children’s names with their birth dates along side. She then smiles and looks at me and says “here you go all the names and birthdates of your children next to it”. So I smile back and apologize and walked out of there as quick as I could.

How embarrassing!.

I’m growing herbs

yes, and they are alive and not dying. We have rosemary, coriander, mint and baby lettuces.

P8040026P8040017 P8040018P8040023

The kids have tomatoes and strawberries growing in pots outside and they are not dead either. So far we are doing well. We are taking baby steps in learning to grow and water our plants. One day we will venture out and perhaps to a veggie garden and chooks?.

Happy Spring time,  I am loving the warmer weather. Can’t wait to wear skirts again.

Paedetrician and a sick child

We had Lachlan’s paediatrician appointment yesterday afternoon which went well. Again, Marty was able to come along so it was good that both of us could put input on our concerns about lachlan. Long story short is that the paediatrician does not believe that Lachlan has any signs on autism or aspergers and that he just has speech delay which speech therapy and pre-school should help.

We brought all 4 kids with us and they were all quite well behaved. The older 2 kids just listened to what the paediatrician had to say. He made it clear to the the other kids to not talk over Lachlan and let him speak. Also, for martin and I to combine verbal talk and visual aid when we are talking to him.

For example the doctor was rolling a car along the table pushing it back and forth. So while he is doing that he says “I have a car, I am rolling the car back and forward”.  The doctor said that we should describe as much as we can when we are talking to Lachlan.

Lachlan has actually come a long way in the last few weeks already in his speech and although he leaves the beginning and sometimes the end of a word. At least we can understand him, before he would get frustrated.

Along with his speech, he seems to have a greater confidence. Martin and I have decided that naughty 2’s is aligned with the ability to communicate. So lachlan seems to be going through his naughty 2’s at the moment.

How about Ethan!. The doctor said that his language should be around 20 words. Well, let me tell you he says more than 20 words.

Anyway after the appointment we went home, Dylan fell asleep in the car.

We got home and while he was working on his school bible presentation, he started getting a temperature, he ended up going to bed until the morning.

So his home today and looks like I’ll be nursing him to better health. Starting with porridge in bed.

Now I wonder if he’ll do this for me when I am crook in bed!.

Athletics carnival cont..

Daddy came with us to the athletics carnival and brought his friend along.

P8260101

He was only on it for a little while, he had to get some work out. It was great having dad there.

The kids had the most fun with the novelty races. Egg and spoon races, sack races, relay races, hoop rolling and other’s I don’t know the name for!

Here are some photo’s of the day.

Isabelle and her good friend Sarah

There was a cow there too who did such a great job in managing the kids on the field.

I bought 4 cups of instant coffee/tea because it was so cold (if your wondering why it’s a big deal. It is because it was instant, the ones you get in the supermarket isle). I am so naughty I need to go and buy a new thermos because the thermos I have has left over residuals of coffee which was hard to clean from last time. I don’t know why I am even going on about this but anyway … so next time I will make sure I bring the thermos (a new one) so I don’t spend $6 on instant tea and coffee!.

Dad was so proud of the kids that he offered to take the kids to see a movie. We searched the internet and found Tinkerbell and the great fairy rescue.

Movie

They had a $7 ticket special, so the price alone was tempting. Usually the movies are beyond $10. It was a 4:50 session and originally I told Martin to take the older 3 kids. I dropped them off and little Ethan at the back is like “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy……….. “all the way around the block so we ended up joining them too!. We were the only people in the cinema just 6 of us!. We then went and had Japanese at Hurstville and invited mum and Julie along with us too. What a day!. We all got home and crashed.

Athletics carnival

On Friday it was the kids Infants carnival, Dylan was so excited as it was his first carnival.

The sun was out but the day was cold. There was a 25m, 50m,75m and 100m race.

Dylan started out well in the 25m. There was like 20 boys so they lined them up over 4 lines and he came 3rd in his line up. We thought we had something for a little while but was not to be.

I am so proud of both Isabelle and Dylan for giving the whole thing a go. That is what the spirit of the games should be.

But my Lachlan got a place. He came 3rd in the 4 year old pre-schoolers race.

My allergic reaction

2 weeks ago I had a severe allergic reaction to something. None of the doctors knows what caused it and I have no idea what caused it, I had spots everywhere and then my face swell up.

And I woke up to this! Wahh

P8120029 P8120028

I was pretty scared considering my face is meant to look like this!

 P7170141

So I went to the chemist to get some phernegan which made be drowsy and did nothing. Finally 2 days after we went to the hospital because we noticed some dots on Ethans body and we were real scared then. The doctors cleared Ethan of anything major and introduced me to claratyne and finally the swelling went down. Phew..

Oh hello!

Been out of action for a while. So many things have been going on.

Through it all though I am discovering so much about myself and some of my passions which I am truly excited about. I’ll be back to blogging again and hope to share some of these discoveries but for now I’ll leave you with a picture of a very handsome young man.

Love Letter?

A note in his folder from school.

Me: So Dylan who is the Jade?

D: Someone from school

M: Is she a girl?

D: Yeah

M: She gave you this note?

D: Yeah

No other comments from this kid of mine … I forgot to take a picture of the boy she drew … the Dylan she drew!

I am sure this is the first of many in his life.

Kookaburra sits in an old …. scooter?

We always have left over bread crust or stale bread which I chuck out the backyard. I don’t do it regularly as I don’t want birds to use my backyard as their feeding place. So there are a few birds which come on a regular basis to say hello. Meet our kookaburra he is quite a clever bird, we spotted him sitting on Lachlan’s scooter the other day.

Holiday Craft

Give me some flour, eggs and milk and I’ll make you some crepes. But give me some scissors, paper and glue I would not even know where to start.

Last holidays was lacking in the “craft” department so these holidays I went out searching for cheap or free events who will provide all materials and instructions to keep my children entertained and me sane :-).

First was the library

Bankstown Council provided craft at the library and the kids made some placemats. They drew pictures and the lady laminated them for us. We made one for each of the family.

P7080384P7080387

Bel is my craft girl and oh how much fun did she have! She always sticks her tongue out when she is concentrating in the middle photo. But oh I had to include the last photo …. not real sure what look that was for.

P7080388P7080392P7080390

That day I walked out with so much craft I needed a plastic bag!

P7080398

P7120017

Dad made this turtle sometime through the holidays.

P7120025

The kids made hip bags that go around your waist and some stick people using pipe cleaners and beads.

 P7120006 P7120013

The Narwee Kids Club also was jammed packed full of craft ! Survivor Outback.

P7120008 P7120011

Dylan got to go to a Kids Club at the Revival Life Centre in Hurstville. He went on his own because Isabelle was sick. He got to make this cool plane and he was very proud. Well done Dylan.

I am very grateful that I had places I could go with my kids to do all this craft. It was lots of fun!.
