Need or want?
Sorting, Sorting and more sorting. I could just keep sorting things. I think it all started when I changed all the kids cupboards around from summer to winter clothes, so then the cleaning flowed to my room, the office and now I hope to tackle the laundry. The next task will be the kitchen, the kids toys (that is a major job!) then the garage!.
I have compiled a list of things that need to be accomplished short term and long term. Hopefully I can tick them off before the end of the year. Yes, before the end of the year. That would be a great goal (need to be realistic right?).
When you sort your things it makes you realise just how much we have. I rarely shop nowadays, I used to enjoy grabbing bargains. It would make me feel happy and give me a buzz. My thoughts have changed on that. I will buy as I need things now and question my purchases before I make them.
Which brings me to my birthday this weekend and mothers day next week. I have been wanting a bread maker and a coffee machine for a while. Being a at home mum I don’t get the pleasure of a cappuccino every day and every time I go and get some fresh bread I end up with a lot more than just bread.
Trying to justify my coffee machine which cost $150, this is 50 bought coffees ($3 a coffee). That is less than 2 months worth of bought coffee.
As for the bread machine, you can get a bread machine for $99, the cheapest white bread I can get is $1.00 a loaf. We go through a loaf a day and sometimes more depending on whether we all have toast for breakfast. So in 99 days I have covered the cost of the bread maker.
I know you have to give and take the cost of ingredients, electricity and time.
The question now is whether these items are a “need” or a “want”??? or maybe both?
Your industriousness is putting me to shame! Eddy walked in the door after being away for three days and started clearing up - how bad had my house got for that to happen!
Leanne says that since you have 4 children, you should be able to justify at least 2 presents. Hee hee. For me, the coffee machine is one of the best used appliances, but only because it uses pods and I don't have the work of making the coffee and cleaning up each time. If you aren't fussed about a fancy coffee machine, you can have my old one. It's been used probably a total of 5 times.
Dear Sandi,
I hope not to ever make you feel shameful. It has been so long since I have sorted (since I moved in to this house actually ... ahh 3 1/2 years) Always look at the positives I say!. It's a good thing that Eddy can see mess and clear up, it's a good thing.
Hi Kylie,
Yeah I have had 4 children but does that justify a coffee machine and a bread machine?. Over the years Marty would buy me whatever I wanted. So now, I have to get rid of stuff I have cause I have nowhere to put this stuff. So now I am trying to buy less and it is so hard!.
I have not used the bread machine you lent me yet and my desire for nice coffee is still there.
Your machine is very good actually. But I don't think they sell that now. They have fancy ones with capsules.
Mother's Day still has not arrived yet, so we'll see !
